In September 2020 the game debuted on GOG, but you can’t buy this version now: due to problems with licenses, Konami pulled it from sale in November 2021 and still hasn’t returned it, although it has been preparing for it in the summer. MY KASPERSKY MODS
Larin hopes that his universal loader will be useful for other developers of mods for the game.
MY KASPERSKY INSTALL
To install SOS, you need to download the archive from the repository GitHub, extract the contents to the /bin folder in the Metal Gear Solid 2 directory and run solid_mods_loader.exe. Larin’s modification is called The Substance Of Subsistence (abbreviated SOS) and allows you to switch between a third-person mode and a fixed camera known from the original release in Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance at the push of a button. Larin spoke in more detail about the difficulties of developing in My June video. In the final version of the modification, the protagonist is controlled in the same way as in MGS 3: Subsistence. In particular, oct0xor was faced with the fact that a change of perspective completely breaks the character controls in MGS 2. To do this, the developer had to resort to reverse engineering and rewrite thousands of lines of code in the game engine. On the 20th anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance – the expanded edition of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – oct0xor (aka Larin) decided to restore justice. Remember that the third-person mode in Metal Gear Solid debuted with the release of the Extended Edition of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Subsistence and has not been added to previous games in the series (Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular).
